BACKGROUND
With a mind to improve the landscape with more and more valuable plants, our foundation started two projects since its inception in the year 2019-20 briefed as
Forest Mission- We undertook plantation of forest trees with the help of Forest dept Punjab at several places including around Darban and we made a niche of our work being recognised and we made a bit of difference to the landscape.
Horticulture Mission- Under this mission that we started last year we motivated several farmers to raise economic plants mainly Neembu or Lemon and were able to diversify agriculture from agriculture to Horticulture on about 8 acres in villages Sarti, Darban and Hara. Plants worth approximately 45000 were purchased and distributed for free.
Amalgameted New Mission:
With the experiences, we gained and the problems we faced, we have decided to launch a new better scheme that will usher in a progressive scheme to benefit the general public at large by greening the earth as well as ushering an economic growth of the people at large. The scheme or mission has been amalgamated of both the above missions to be called as “GOOD EARTH GREEN MISSION”
WHAT IS A “GOOD EARTH GREEN MISSION” (GEGM)?
GEGM is an amalgamated mission of Forest Mission and Horticulture Mission as a new package to make our earth a good place to live.
Its purpose is
twin to make the earth green to stop climatic changes that are going to plague the world and also to economically uplift every household.
Its purpose is to broaden the concept of greening to more and more people and motivate people to save the earth.
Against the earlier missions, which were localised and limited to very few beneficiaries, we need to broaden the base to general people and cover at least a village each year.
Timing of GEGM Launch
We propose to launch the mission once ina year during the monsoon season in the latter part of August each year.
Project Directors of GEGM
Jagriti would have two project Directors to implement the scheme. We have the support of two volunteers who have agreed to share this responsibility for the Jagriti Foundation to spread the message of Greening to the masses.
Mr Sanjive Thakur, Assistant Prof. University College Niari, will be in charge of distribution and local logistics and would help in organising Functions at the college.
Advocate Deepak Rasotra from village Bhamlada and a Practicing lawyer at Pathankot would be coordinating efforts with various depts for arranging plants form Forest dept and from nurseries may be private or Govt for free distribution to the people and help motivate people with camp etc.
Jagriti Foundation will reimburse all cost to the team.
Venue of Functions
We will hold an annual function at University College Niari with the help and support of the Principal University College Niari and would select one village each year for intensive implementation with each home as our Target to create a green village ecosystem.
Will, there will a theme each year?
Yes under GEGM, we will have a theme each year. T start with we will have the theme to protect and propagate/protect endangered wild Plant Palash(Butea monosperma) and would try to plant a few saplings on the college campus as well as in the countryside.
Volunteers for the mission GEGM
We will try to work out a team of volunteers 21 to 31 students from the University College Niari with the help and leadership of Principal Manhas and Prof Sanjive Thakur, especially from NSS Wing as our core team for this function as well as future events. The volunteers would be called Green Messengers or Green Brigade who will help achieve our mission as Messengers of God on earth. The volunteer would be given preference for Scharschips to be allotted in the year beginning 2022-23. We will try to print a suitable Tie shirt in Green theme for each volunteer that should be worn while volunteering for the mission.
The selection would be made once admissions are over in the first half of August before we launch our mission each year.
How the system of GEGM will work
We will hold a simple function with our theme in mind in
University College Niari in the august presence of our Chief Guest and Guest of Honour in the later part of the
August. Tree plantation will be got done and started on the college campus.
We will concentrate on the plantation in a specific village each year, we will start from the village Niari this year.
We will target each household and provide them saplings free of cost with the help of Volunteers and Village elders like Nambardars, Panches and Sarpanch of the village both present and former. Our function or mission will be non-political and we would invite all irrespective of their party affiliation.
We will provide each household maximum of two horticulture plants and two forest plants of economic value with directions that these plants may be planted in their court yeards or their farms as possible. We will try to reach out with a green message to at least 350 -500 families each year to the masses.
Besides we would hold a Free Langar of trees/saplings on the Road outside Mid Haveli with the help and permission of Trustee Deepak Maini ji and would distribute a few hundred plants to the people moving up or down in buses, cars or motorcycles with requesting them to carry saplings/plants both fruit as well as forest along and plant them in their courtyard or farms.
GEGM Whatasapp Group
We would like to create a group of core members who would be interested, trustees volunteers to carry on the mission exclusively for which we woild designate two or three p admins to run. We would even request villages to upload the planting of the saplings on the group for which we will add them to felicitate information and record the project thereof. Our purpose is to reach to hook and corner of the Dahr area with a motivational message to the greening of the good mother earth that gives everything to us.
